Trainer
Betsy de Thierry MA, is a psychotherapist with over 30 years experience leading trauma recovery teams in multiple organisations that she has founded to help children and young people recover from complex trauma. Betsy has developed a trauma recovery model of practice called the Trauma Recovery Focused Model which charities and practitioners partner with to facilitate recovery rather than just management of trauma symptoms.

Betsy is a sought after speaker who has trained over 32,000 people in 34 nations in the last 10 years. She has authored 8 books on trauma recovery, many of which are best sellers with the publisher. She has a new book coming out in 2025 called How to Navigate A child Through to Trauma Recovery and she also written a chapter in a book ‘The Clinical Guide to Complex Trauma and Dissociation In Children’ which will also be out in 2025.Betsy is passionate about helping families recover from trauma and she is a consultant for many charities and projects due to her commitment to the field.

Her trauma informed framework is the subject of many roundtables and policy consultations in meetings in parliament and her paper about her work is in the latest publication sent to every clinical commissioning group and parliamentarian ‘Addressing Adversity’ which explores her work at the TRC and with the TM rooms in schools.

Betsy founded the national organization The Childhood Trauma Recovery Network (CTRN) (https://www.traumarecoverynetworkuk.org/) which is a network of professionals who work in a trauma informed approach who are on a map for people to find help. The associates are arguably some of the key leaders in the trauma recovery world within the UK.
She has had interviews in many mainline journals including BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy) and Adoption UK.

Description of course
In this training day Betsy will be exploring the neurobiology of emotional connection, how to spot the signs of ‘not enough emotional connection’ which can leave the imprint of trauma on a life, and how to recover from ‘not enough emotional connection’. You will leave with an understanding of what ‘not enough emotional connection’ is, the impact it has on the mind, body, emotions, relationships and subconscious, and strategies to reduce impact and move through to trauma recovery. We welcome you to a shame-free and non-judgmental space where we can explore how to see humans grow and thrive.

Humans need emotional connection for healthy lives, in order to have that strong neurobiological foundation for exploring and flourishing in life and being all that they hope to be. In our society today, with heightened levels of adult mental health challenges, an increase in screen usage, and in the wake of the world wide pandemic which have impacted our human connection, there is a need for us to increase our intentionality of building strong emotional connections. Now more than ever, we are seeing an increase in ‘not enough emotional connection’, which is not necessarily from mal-intent, but a by-product of challenging circumstances beyond the control of parents and carers, where juggling life becomes increasingly hard.
